The Carbon Trust

The Carbon Trust is an independent company funded by Government to help the UK move to a low carbon economy. The Carbon Trust’s role is to helping business and the public sector reduce carbon emissions now and capture the commercial opportunities of low carbon technologies.

The 2003 UK's Government's Energy White Paper set an aspiration for the UK to reduce carbon emissions by 60% and create a low carbon economy by 2050. The Carbon Trust believes that it is technically feasible to achieve this through a step change in energy efficiency and the development and greater use of low carbon technologies (for example, renewables and hydrogen). In addition, there is a need for sustained action to remove the technical, economic and regulatory barriers that impede the transition to a low carbon economy.
